When Moses the Patriarch was told by God to go and free my people, Moses replied, as the story goes, who shall I say sent me? to which God replied, I’ am that I’ am:
Ex 3:11-14 (NIV)
11But Moses said to God, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” 12And God said, “I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you a will worship God on this mountain.” 13Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?” 14God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. b This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
Or a more literal translation would be
Ex 3:11-14 (YLT)
11And Moses saith unto God, ‘Who [am] I, that I go unto Pharaoh, and that I bring out the sons of Israel from Egypt?’ 12and He saith, ‘Because I am with thee, and this [is] to thee the sign that I have sent thee: in thy bringing out the people from Egypt — ye do serve God on this mount.’ 13And Moses saith unto God, ‘Lo, I am coming unto the sons of Israel, and have said to them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you, and they have said to me, What [is] His name? what do I say unto them?’ 14And God saith unto Moses, ‘I AM THAT WHICH I AM (Emphasis added by me);‘ He saith also, ‘Thus dost thou say to the sons of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.’
When someone asks us, “Who are we?” we normally answer with what we do, “I’m a Doctor” or “I’m a mother”, etc… But what are we really? Aren’t we more than what we have made ourselves to be. Do you not hear the greater you calling out to be awaken, deep calling Deep, begging to be heard and lived out. We spend a lot of time in the world of the form, where I believe we often get lost in the rat race we have created for ourselves. We see the Self and Ego as who we are, struggling with finding reason to the drama and the story we call life. Very few people would consider themselves perfect, even Christians who believe that Mankind was created in God’s Image, even when the Creator calls us Perfect. We still don’t accept it, we resist, how could we be perfect when there is so much violence, cruelty, hunger, and all the other Ills that we as Mankind endure? No, we cannot be perfect; I disagree, I do believe that we were created as perfect, but still evolving into the fullness that the creator has made us to be. Yes, there are Ills and problems that we have caused, and endured, but this can be turned around by realizing who and what we are.
We are capable of creating such beauty and tremendous love, we are only limited by how we think and what we believe. For the world as we see and experiencing is a direct result of what we have created. First in thought, then in words and deed; in us God has placed his life, his spirit; this is creation in us. This is what Jesus and other Masters have tried to teach and proclaim the “God within Us” a light that cannot be extinguished.
Genpo Roshsi (Denis Genpo Merzel, Big Mind Site) Calls this Big Mind, Big Heart. This is the true us that lies at the core of our being. If we could become more conscious of the true us, focusing on living from the inside out we can begin to turn from such destructive ways and find practical and better ways to live. Instead we have acted out of our fears and Egos; we have created the Devil and Religions that are fear driven, controlling and manipulative. No, we are more than this, we are:
- Light
- Individualization of Life, love, peace, joy health and wealth
- We are limitless, complete, whole and perfect as God has made us to be
- As God the Creator is, so are we, this was the true message of Jesus and every other Master.
If we could live in this reality, in this awareness, then we would begin to see others as divine individual souls for which God can be expressed in true love and abundant life. Then we can say in a great declaration of freedom “I AM THAT WHICH I AM.”
Ok, here’s the challenge
- Check out the Genpo Roshi Videos it’s here (Big Mind Process Videos)
- Then for next ten days, live in this truth about who you really are by reminding yourself and holding in your Mind’s eye that you are truly Endless, Boundless, Big Mind and Big Heart
- Come back and share your experience.

After all the years that have passed, I wonder why the translation error was never caught. God did not say,
“I am that which I am.” He did not speak in present tense. The word for “I am” in hebrew was “ani”….the actual hebrew is in future tense.
“I shall be that I shall be”….or ” I will be what I will be.”
Adds a different perspective, doesn’t it?

Hey Marianne.
Thanks for the comment, I’m not sure that it does really change anything. The point is, that God has made us in the his, her’s/Creator’s image whether by evolution or pure creation, in fact not I’m not sure if there is a real difference. I think we have created a God in our own image, one that requires blood and death for atonement, Love replaced by Fear, Death replaces by Life. I think Modern Christianity as it currently is practiced does not work. We have made The message of Jesus and the Bible more of a Myth and molded it to a view point that is based on Fear. It has become our way vs theirs, we are right they are wrong. None of which is the point. God is not a Christian
